Struck by gale while upbound with the schooner-barge D.P. RHODES in tow. he heaving barge ripped the stern off the freighter. By running full ahead, FAY was able to keep her from filling while she was run up on the beach. She was later broken up by wave action. Bound for Chicago. Newspaper and other sources say her mate died. Major repair in 1883
