Left at anchor in Thunder Bay by steamer HURON CITY. Anchor chains parted and she was driven against Gilchrist dock and wrecked. Crew abandoned her with difficulty. Later removed, but not returned to service. On Nov 20, 1880, she was cast adrift by steamer JAMES P. DONALDSON, driven ashore and wrecked in a gale, 4 mi E of Erie, PA. Her crew was saved by the Lifesaving Service using breeches' buoy. Captain of the barge and captain of lifesaving crew were old shipmates. She was heavily damaged and declared a total loss in some papers, but was recovered in June of 1881. Rebuilt in 1876. Completely dismasted in a gale in 1856.
