She sprang a leak and broke her towline from the steamer JOHN F. EDDY while crossing the mouth of Saginaw Bay. The crew took to her boats and were picked up by the steamer H.E. RUNNELS. SHAW foundered a short while later. Skippers of SHAW and EDDY were at variance as to where she sank, EDDY's was right; wrecking tug JOHNSTON found her off Greenbush in Jul, 1896.
