ROCK PORT SPRINGS

Rock Port Springs are a series of deep aquifer issues through holes in the limestone bedrock thst is so near the surface in Northeastern Michigan. Where these springs issue from the uncovered ledge white alge plumes grow and form "wedding veils" blowing in the current. If the issues are on the sand covered bottom sand boils are created that look like a boiling pot of hot cereal. The location is a popular spot for spawning fish to lay their eggs in the sand. The dive can begin right from the beach where the ledge begins and heads off to the South East.

The Springs are accessed from Rock Port. By boat you head north for 1/4 to 2/3 of a mile and pull up to shore just as the beach changes from rocky to sandy. The ledge can be clearly seen by the breaking waves over the shallows near shore. You will find depths from 12' to 22' along the ledge.
